Shooting in Lancashire

I'm currently a mamber at BFTO in Bisley and enjoy every minute I spend at this fantastic club. I also have a small peice of land to shoot in Devon (three hours drive from my house!).

But! I may be moving north to Lancashire soon due to a new job. My question is how do I leave Bisley behind? How's to shooting up there? Are there any good/great clubs? Are my chances of getting some land any good?

It's early days yet and I may not have to move but there's no harm in checking these things out.

Cant comment on Lancs but as I had to move from Guildford two years ago - after three years at BFTO - I can say you can never leave Bisley and Malabar totally behind!! I still keep up my membership even though I only get to shoot there a couple of times a year. Why? I cant find anywhere with such a good clubhouse, a 55 yards windless range and such a large bunch of friendly and knowlegable shooters (especially Pistol which was my main dicipline). I know he has moved on now but where woudl you ever find another Peter B!!

Rivington Riflemans club at Bolton, talk to I.J. on here. Best around as far as I know.
There's also a rifle range at Blackburn but is a little toffy nosed for air rifle users.
Then ther is Blackburn Outdoor Airgun Club which doesn't have much in the facilities dept but has a HFT style range and friendly folk. It's also open 24hrs Nearer the time, if you want an introduction to any of the above in B/burn drop me a mail.
HTH,
Dave.

Cheers Dave for the nice comments. Yes I agree the Indoor Firearms Range is a little 'toffy nosed' against airgunners but both Rivington R. and Blackburn Outdoor have a very friendly atmosphere (typical of us northerners )

Dave/I.J.

Would either of you be so kind as to send me more details of this Blackburn Outdoor club you mention above please?

I had thought the blackpowder & rimfire club in Blackburn was the nearest for my airgun shooting, and likewise have found the inhabitants a little dismissive of my being there at times "with my pop gun". Anything more airgun friendly would be a definite breath of fresh air.

Many thanks,
Marc

PS Sorry to hijack the thread Guv'nor

Marc, I will drop you a mail at the weekend with the contact details. In the meantime it's on Stockclough Lane in Feniscowles, Blackburn, BB2 5JR. If you call up there, contact details are posted in the shed.
Rgds,
Dave.
p.s. I won't be up there for a fortnight as it's the BBS shoot this weekend, if you want directions drop me a mail.
