    Good gunshops in Brighton?

As of 1st February, my job is being relocated out of central London into the heart of glorious Brighton <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

In order to alleviate the stress of the extra two hours journey time, are there any good gunshops nearby that I might be able to peruse of a lunch hour?

I'll be based about 10 minutes away from Brighton train station.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Westons are in East St, if you want to use multimap their postcode is BN1 1HP

Is that splendid Antique gun shop still going in the lanes?

They always seemed to me a bit expensive, however it is the only place I have found near brighton.

I walked past it the other day, and had a quick drool at the rows of polished stocks!

    I think it will require further investigation <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Gunshop in Brighton.

Over priced, cheaper to stick to mail order from other outlets.

I always like to give my local shop the chance to match mail order / internet deals. I would rather keep my money in the local economy if at all possible. Also if everyone buys mail order the local gun shop will die off which doesnt do shooting any good at all.

Other bonus of buying local is that you have a face to shout at if something goes wrong :-)

    Cheers

    Gun shops.

I agree with the above but being the only shop and having a 'captive audience' doesn't give them the right to hike up prices.

Trowel, just a couple of things I'd like to say.

Firstly, buying mail order might be cheeap, and I know that service is usually very good. But it's not all about buying cheap. As an example, I work as a mechanic for a local bike/sports shop. Now if you bring us a bike, and ask us to adjust the brakes or something, sure, we can do it. But if you bought the bike from us in the first place, we're far more likely to jump at your command, and get it to the front of the queue of cheap Halfods bikes people bought, broke within a few days, and want us to fix.

We do mail order (mainly specialist cycle supplies) at the shop too, so I'm not biased. But I believe it's best to buy local if you can. You keep the money in the local economy, you speak face to face with someone, and the peace of mind knowing that they'll be glad to help you or offer advice is, IMHO opinion, well worth the few quid you might have saved by buying as cheap as you can from elsewhere.

    Brighton Gunners.

C & H Westons are OK. Some of the items in there can be a little over-priced, but I've found that they are willing to haggle over most things, usually the second hand stuff.

They have quite a wide selection of guns for such a small shop and they are always willing to look up stuff that they don't stock. Don't hold your breath though if you're told they'll call you back, they always forget to <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

Overall I'd say Westons is as good a gun shop as most others in the UK, not remarkable, but well stocked and reasonable.

Now, the Brighton Armouries in the lanes is another story <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> Everything in there is real (but deactivated of course). The youngest sword they stocked was 50 years old, and the deacs range from modern stuff back to the wild west and beyond!

Should have seen the looks I was getting from people in the street when I bought my Bren gun from there. They wrapped it in bin liners for me but there was no mistaking what I was carrying <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->
