DIY stock

my airsporter mk2 stock is badly cracked so i want to make another
1) is sapele ok?
2)are there any books or literature on the market?

I recently spoke to Logun regarding the type of wood they use for the Logun Solo stocks. They told me that the Solos stocks are made from Sapele, so it must be pretty easy to work with and it is not unattractive.

Good luck with the Airsporter stock (not an easy job, but a few people I know have made themselves excellent gun stocks )

I made a sapelle stock for a qb 78 (see bbs custom gallery) about 37th picture up from bottom

Compared to beech I found it much nicer to work with and easier to finish.
With a router it was quite 'buttery' but bits must be sharp and cuts made gradually or it can splinter. It doesn't burn like beech if the cutting speed is too high and generally is quite forgiving. Personaly I didn't like the 2 tone 'fire door' finish but its a 'warm' wood to the touch. Also isn't so warpy as beech.
