what is the best lengh for a new walther barrel?

i have a new walther barrel on order but wondered what lengh would be best for all round feild target shooting?currently my steyr barrel is just under 17 inches long. the barrel is 23 inches long.if i keep it long i will get more shots and less tention on the hammer spring, but slower lock time and perhaps better follow through needed.has the lengh of my current steyr barrel been tried and tested mainly for 10 metrs and not 55 yards and so would it bennefit a longer barrel.perhaps shooters could measure their barrels to give me some idea or perhaps someone has tested diferent sized 1.77 barrels.many thanks Andy.

    me too...

...i have just purchased a walther barrel from chambers in scotland.my p70 barrel is very long but very accurate.
i am making my custom p70 with an 18" barrel...may even come down to 16" after testing.i think over 45yds it will be ok.will keep you all informed as i know!!
just make sure the choke is the right end!!

    hehe!...

i had to email chambers as they had not marked which end was choked.
turns out...the choked end was flat with crowned bore and the machined tapered end was breech end!....lucky i checked,as even they comented that it was normally other way round.
good quality barrel too and arrived within 24hrs...good service and only £85.

got a nice 'ribbed' carbon shroud for it too.carbonology 14.3mm i/d and 17mm o/d.barrel being machined/ground to suit next week.
regulator and 500cc bottle being machined and new center housing i will be making over next few weeks.
need to find a nice silencer like my other 1 to go on it.
nice on paper, just want to get it all done now!!....hopefully before shepreth ukahft meet!
