Old gun refurbishment Devalue Question ??

Just received a Lovely Mercury - S from Blackpowder on the forum lovely guy to deal with by the way, however i'm new to collecting my question is this:

The blueing is turning brownish which i guess is common of older guns, But no major rust or damage yet. BSA say they can polish and re blue the gun or I could send it away to a specialist to do, but would it devalue the gun ?? as i won't be hunting with it that often and not likely to get wet is it likely to rust now its turned a brownish colour. And is a reblue considered a no no in collecting.

Any advice on this would be great as I would like to hang on to the gun for my lifetime and give it to my boys, but don't obviously want it to rust or devalue.

Any advice from those in the know welcome.

    Many thanks
    Paul

Get it re-blued. These rifles are relatively common so unless it was an as-new, mint condition unused rifle you were thinking of re-blueing it is not really an issue. It's for using so get it done. ISP do a better-than-new blueing so if you want a class job send it to them.

    ISP

You'll also get an excellent job done (quicker and cheaper) by Col@Mag on here.

I suggest you take BSA up on their offer, providing the cost is reasonable.
You will then have a 'Manufacturers' finish on the rifle, which is always preferable to a collector.

Many thanks guys for the input BSA are charging £25 for a complete re blue and refurbish, which incomparision is very cheap, a big hep one and all. I've been tol that CS Airguns & Firearms are very good to they want £85 for a refurb & £20 for a reblue. http://www.csfirearms.co.uk/contact.php

Does ISP have a link would be of interest.

    Thanks
    Paul
