    Webley Service Rifle MK2

I have just inherited a Webley service rifle mk2 and would be greatfull for anyone knowing the true value of such a great gun.The rifle is in realy superb original condition I would go as far as to say near mint.It has been used but well looked after and considering it age, it is a real gem.It is not boxed and only has the one barrel in .22.I do not intend to sell the gun but need to get a true value for insurance purposes.I can try and post some pics if it will help. Thanks for reading my post.Simon

    hi simon
yes they are wonderfull guns, a good condition but age worn
specimen will fetch £300-£400 a minter a good bit more
if it is as good as you say i would insure it for £500- £600

do you know which series it is? this can be deduced from the serial number
is the barrel locked by a push button or a curved spring steel catch
    hope this helps

    Simon,

From the description you have given, it is definitely worth insuring for £500 at least.
What is the serial number ?
Some pictures would be nice if you can do them.

    Simon,

I am rather puzzled, as you say it has a curved spring barrel locking feature, yet the serial number is S3312 which should make it an early third pattern with push button barrel release.
The first and second pattern Service Mk.2's were produced in quantities of 1000 of each.

That is a series 3 Simon, with a push button barrel catch. You can see what was meant by 'curved spring steel' barrel catch here.

As you said, your rifle appears to be in beautiful condition. Lucky man.

It is definitely the original finish, not reblued, is it?

    Simon,

    Definitely a 3rd. pattern Mk.2.
Don't see them in that good original condition very often.
I would still recommend an insurance valuation of £500.
