Glyn, I have one too, which I bought in 1978. At the front end you should find a clear acrylic rod, cut at an angle, held by a small grub screw, this has the reticle on it, (if you take it out you will see). You can use them with one, or both eyes open, like the old singlepoint sights.
Quite good for close range snapshots and ratting. At the time, I read an article in AGW where they suggested taking a pin to the reticle to 'improve' it, I of course did this, and it has been back in its box ever since

Keep both eyes open when aiming; it’s a bit of a tricky holographic illusion,
I have one of these sights and can get a sight picture but it’s not a fast target acquisition system , good fun but more of a collector’s item.

I've always liked the look of those old BSA reflex sights; wasn't the aiming dot white on them? If so, is there any way you can change the colour to red?

Also, if anyone has a singlepoint SP220 (with the cone shaped front cover, rather than the semi-spherical one) they dont want, I'm looking for one...!

    bsa reflex sight

The first reflex sight i had , had a white circle with with a cross
which did not biscect the circle .
The second one i bought had an orange light collector which gave a
bright orange circle (great in snow) but not in normal light .
had taken old collector from broken sight so swapped them over
another problem to overcome was that the sight has an alloy body.
Because of this you ,dont over tighten but glue on with fast setting
araldite this does,nt cure as hard as normal araldite.
This also stops sight creep. hope this helps a bit ; rdug

    BSA RS1 sight

Hi Rdug, I acquired one of these a few months ago and it has the white cross and centre disc image. I've tried it on a couple of springers and it is surprisingly accurate. Unlike red dots there are no problems with parallax but it depends on the right lighting conditions to show up well. Unfortunately with swapping it about one of the small clamping bolts has broken in half so I'll have to find a replacement.

    old reflex sights

I had a similar sight in about 1979. It had a square with cross posts I think & had a white reticule color. Boy did i feel stupid getting home & fitting it then trying to hit things with a thick snow covering on the ground! It had a square section alloy black body, anyone got a pic of the bsa one they can post a link to?
