    A*i*r*17

    Hi.

Here's a little review of my AIR 17. It's an airgun from the mid 80's. I wanted to get one when I was younger. I got it a short while ago off 'R. P. McMurthy'

First thoughts is it's definetly a kiddies gun, it's light, not too robust but yet not too flimsy.

Type : Single pump BB/.177 Pellet
    Max velocity : 450fps (BB) ; 400fps (Pellet)
    Capacity : Mag 21 BBs ; Port 195 BBs ; Pellet Clip 4 pellets
    Weight : 3lbs., 1oz., (1.4kg.)
    Length : 36 3/4" (93.4cm)

    COCKING

To cock the AIR17 you need to hold the carry handle with one hand & with the other grab the fore end & pull down, then bring back to closed position.

There is a safety button that is situated on the trigger guard.

    LOADING BBs

Filling the AIR17 with BBs, you need to open the Port & pour in the BBs.

Once filled pull BB retainer back (button top of stock), turn rifle over & shake. Until the magazine is full, then push BB retainer back forword.

Once loaded pull back the bolt, which will pick up a BB, then push bolt back forward.

Now I haven't used the AIR17 with BBs as of yet so I can't comment on it.

    LOADING PELLETs

The AIR17 comes with a plastic clip that holds 4 pellets

Simply push pellets into the numbered slots 1,2,3 & 4

Once done pull back bolt & aline clip with chamber, then push bolt forward.

    The SIGHTs

They are just rear sight O ring Fully adjustable, front sight is a blade.

    STORAGE COMPARTMENTS

    There are two storage compartments

    One is the Dummy Magazine

    The other is Hollow stock

BBs / Pellets can be stored in the magazine, screwdrivers or chocolate bars can be stored in the stock.

My personal view is I like it. I know it's purpose as a low power plinker! It's good fun with the added bit of nostalga.

On cocking the fore-end seems abit flimsy & the plastic bends in abit. The Clip works o.k just need to make sure it's line up. I would benifit with extra clips through.

The stated power is 400fps using AA .177 it would make the power at 3ft lbs.

I done a three shot string. Mine came out at:

    FPS : 345, 347 , 321 : Average of 338

    Ft Lbs : 2.24 , 2.27 , 1.95 : Average of 2.15

Down on power but it never was really up there.

I have photo copies of the manual of the AIR17. Anyone who has one or interested I'll gladly do you a set.

I remembered that Crosman actually do it in PDF (need abode on your computer)
