    Theoben Sirrocco Grand Prix..

Hi Folks, just a quick one about this newly acquired rifle which i've just managed to shoot for the first time today.
I've been trying to get hold of one of these since they were introduced about 20 ish years ago - yes that does make me feel old !
Eventually bought this off Marc ( Blackbird on here )
Got to say that condition is great for its age and it still puts every pellet within an inch at 35 yards, in short i'd say that this is more accurate than i am.
I've read conflicting reports and opinions on here with regards to Theoben gas rams ( mostly good ), but one or two shooters reported them to be scope breakers. Cant say i've had any problems myself.
If you look at my sig you'll notice that i'm a bit of a Theoben fan.I particularly like the styling, fast lock time, fantastic accuracy and top notch build quality of these rifles.
As far as this rifles concerned, i'd consider it to be more than a match for any modern day recoiler on the range and its timeless styling would put many
    to shame...

i had a scirocco about 5 years ago and loved it, not the thumbhole though. the action was great..really smooth and direct. cant say the recoil was really bad at all, my lightning however is a different story.

    (Glass Rams)

    Hi Paul,
Got to say she is looking fab!. With regards to the gas ram breaking scopes, My Tasco did break but I then put on the BSA, which was on there for about 8yrs with no probs.
I have been told that Tasco scopes are chinese, mass produced and not good anymore . Better to buy a half decent scope and this way shouldn't get any trouble. The average centre fire rifle has more kick but with good glass they dont get any probs

I dont think it's just Theobens that have a rep for breaking scopes,my old Fenman broke two Tasco's,my Hw80 did too,it's just Tasco's,the Simmons scopes i used after were as sound as a pound.

    Why me!

I must just be unlucky, my Supersport busted a Tasco ,THEN destoyed a Simmons 1.5-5x20 WTC.The broken scopes were worth than the damn gun!

Any way back to your Sirrocco ; I think it`s a very elegant, solid looking rifle you`ve got there ,I think the stock in particular sets it off a treat.I wish it was mine !

    Take care

Thanks for that chaps...i agree Steiner, the stock on this really is lovely.
Take a look at these pics atattached, its of the stock of my Theoben Olympus - dated around 1995, made of Hyedua.
Effectively this rifle is the updated version of the sirrocco and in my opinion is probably the best handling - recoiling rifle i've ever used
I think it's got something to do with the thumbhole stocks, i just find them better somehow?!...
    Cheers

    Cool

I have one in .177 and despite trying lots of other springers I've not found another that I can shoot as well as the Sirocco GP. I don't find it particularly pleasant to shoot. The recoil characteristic is too harsh for that. It's certainly no well tuned Tx, Pro-sport or HW 77/97/98. However it shoots more accurately in my hands than any example of an alternative that I've tried. I have no idea why this should be but I'm happy that it is and that I own one. As far as killing scopes goes, I've had the rifle since the early 90s. In almost all that time it has had a Tasco 2.5-10x44 Gold Crown on it without incident. I tend to prefer mil-dot reticles so it was replaced by a Nikko Stirling Gold Crown Airking 3-9x42AO earlier this year. So far I've had no problems with this scope either.
