Thanks Alex, I am pretty keen to have a look through one ASAP so I think I might just go ahead and order one mail order that way if I don't like it then I can just send it back for a full refund, the postage for doing this will be cheaper than going to Dunmow and back!

I was going to say that i have just taken on a Zeiss agency and might be able to help but i will not sell a scope to anyone ecpecting to return it after mounting on a rifle . Incidentaly if the packaging is opened on a Night force scope it cannot be returned to the importer and so please be carefull before ordering. You may offend or get upset at the responc you get from a dealer

Foxy, as a retailer (which I presume you are) surely you are aware of the consumer credit act. The law states that ANYONE buying something over the internet i.e. the consumer has been unable to view the goods before purchase, has the legal write to return those goods if for some reason they are not happy with them.

I ask that you credit me with a bit of common decency if I was to buy a Zeiss scope from which ever retailer I choose, I would have NO intention on mounting it on a rifle and using it unless I was going to keep it (I never said I was intending on mounting it)

My intention would be to buy one carefully open the box carefully take the scope out and have a look through it with someone else holding a lamp, if I don't like it then it WILL be returned to the retailer in the exact same condition it was sent to me in and I WILL receive a full refund.

Legally, I'd say you are quite right, but if any particular retailer gets the feeling that you're using the consumer credit act just to help you browse, they may become a little wary of doing business with you in the future.

Yes, I agree but the law is the law and there isn’t a retailer in the UK that could legally support a refusal for a full refund on something you are returning that you’ve purchased without even seeing i.e. mail order or internet.

However in this current recession I bet there are a few retails that would be only too willing to agree to sell you a £1,300 scope on the bases that you might return it in the same condition as it left them, if it’s not to your liking, at least that way they have a 50% chance of a sale.

Buying something mail order so that you can have a look at it and then deciding whether to keep it or not is no different to looking at it in the shop, the only difference is that you are looking at it in your own home and not on the shops premises. Almost the entire population do this (Freemans, Kays etc, etc) most of the time you end up keeping what you ordered but sometimes you return things, the only looser in this case is you because you end up paying two lots of postage but sometimes this is still cheaper and more convenient than driving to the shop and back.

Opening a box and looking at something is exactly that whether it’s in the shop or at your home makes no difference.

Ballie I have both the Zeiss and the swaro and the Zeiss is better

I have looked through a Nightforce and Zeiss side by side and the Zeiss had a much larger field of view, cant say whether it was brighter as it was a lovely July day at the time

I use 10x when lamping, can zoom up to 14x before it starts getting darker.

Ziess is a far better performer in the dark the anything from NF but there is just no need to go 72mm
IMHO.
I would suggest a 50mm lens personally but I actually use a 36mm and if I could get one would very happily use another on any sub 300 yard rifle.

Yes you are right but you may just find getting another scope from elsewhere difficult if your details are noted and passed around, they all have the right to refuse to sell you one

I note another BBSer has written encouragingly about it, and I guess it looks less like a Christmas-tree than the mildot one, which seems to light up almost entirely.

I have 2 of the 6-24x56ir Zeiss and compared to the couple of NF that i have seen the Zeiss stand head and shoulders above the NF. The picture is right there in the rear lense if you know what i mean rather than looking like its part the way down the tube!

When lamping i quite often use 14x mag an have even wound it up to 20x without any probs what so ever! Just simply stunning! When funds allow i shall get another!

i'm thinking of buying one of these for my rifle, it'll be used for lamping and long range magpie/grey crow/rabbit shooting, just havent made my mind up on the 72mm or 56mm obj, i've shopped around and can get an ex demo 72mm model for d same price as a new 56mm but i don't know which to go for, the 72mm is surely better but will be mor expensive to mount due to d 34mm tube and i'll need a comb raiser due to the extra height of the scope, is there much difference between d optical quality of them, any advice will be greatly appreciated,

Distance selling regs mean you have a 7 day cooling off period if you'change your mind' on web buys. Does not cover face to face purchases.

20PPC on UKV has both the 56 and 72 mm versions, says they are awsome.

My 7x42 BGAT binos compare well with a friends 8x56s, only difference seemed to be a bigger picture. Low light work was identical.

I shoot F-Class up to 1000 yards my Zeiss conquest 6.5-20x50 hasn't got enough magnification so I bought a Nightforce NXS 8-32x56..... Excellent magnification but the optics not as good as Zeiss.

I'm now thinking about selling the Nightrforce and buying a Zeiss 6-24x56 (with 43 ret) but need to take a look at one first to compare with my 20x & see if 24x is enough for my needs.
Can't afford to make a mistake when you're talking somuch money...

Does anyone know a stockist near me or would anyone on the forum say within 50 miles of Marlow, be willing to let me have a look at one? Or does anyone from further afield ever go to Bisley?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Most retailers require a re-stocking fee for any goods not returned for fault or defect. It's in their terms of sale, 20% is typical.
It's a nightmare having goods returned if you operate on professional basis and have such things as re-order points. This is why you'd also be required to call and request a re-order number or the goods will be refused.
