The Webley Junior first appeared in 1930 and changed in 1931 to Blued metal grips, Value is anything from £50 to £150 depending on the state it is in.

The number 4 was added to the Birmingham address on the first models to appear after WW2 on pistols with the numbers J21551 to J25065.

If you can find any more markings I might be able to tie it down to a year for you, email me if you want more info.
    Regards
    Bob

    Do you have a pic???

What are the grips made of?

    Are the rear sights adjustable?

There is normaly another number stamped on the frame under the grip, which should be similar to the number you have from the chamber.

yeah there is the same number under the grip - 773

grips seem to be of some plastic type material - brown in colour

the rear sight is adjustable - there is a screw holding a small plate which you just move then nip up

i will get a pic up when im next using my home pc

There should be an inspection letter stamped on the left hand side of the frame behind the trigger guard, it should be one of the following : -

    A, C, D, F, H, I, J, L, P, S, V.

This letter helps tell the date of manufacture.

    Is the barrel rifled?

The letter F is the most common in the post war models made between 1950 - 1958, the seriel numbers are from 118 - 2325 with a smooth barrel and adjustable rear sight.

I believe the grips on your gun to be custom made and not the original, as the junior was only supplied with the "Chequered" grips.

The trouble with these letters are that they were used over and over again, they are batch letters, so a bit of detective work is needed to trace the year of manufacture. For instance "F" was used between 1946- 1950, but the rear sight was fixed not adjustable, same with the ones made pre war, but they had black tin handles.

I willl stop before I bore you all to death, a good book to try and get hold of is The collectors guide to Airpistols, by Dennis E Hiller.

Go on put me on the spot why don't you

Depending on how it shoots, and the general condition, In my opinion you should be looking in the region of £50 - £120, could be more if you had the original box and grips.

Hope all this info has helped
