not really up to todays standards but lovely rifles nontheless!
I've been building up a collection of classic springers, and I really want an Airsporter, but it has to be able to shoot springer HFT.
So... RB2 or "S?" 12 groove barrel? Got to be a .177. Would I be better off looking for some rocking horse poo, or Dodo eggs?
What do you think?

I think in terms of being competative you'd be peeing in the wind and I owned a .177 RB2 until relatively recently. The trigger isn't really good enough and the power level compared to recoil/hold sensitivity is too great. To maintain best accuracy you'd probably have to be shooting at relatively low power and be at a distinct trajectory disadvantage. However, I suspect you'd end up with a grin on your face provided you don't epect to be ultra competative.
I took mine (unscoped) round a FT course just for a giggle. Was chuffed as buttons with 8 ex 30, seemed to enjoy it more than knocking 20 odd down with my race rig.
Fabricatum diem, pvnc!
If I can do it with a Meteor Gus, you should be able to do it with an Airsporter.
I have a .177 Mk6 'S' so they do exist out there.

Just shot several 1/2 inch groups at 30 yards, rested elbows, with Mark6 Airsporter, late Mercury and my newly acquired RB2. The RB2 is def a crossover gun from Airsporter to Superstar and shoots/sounds/feels just like my Superstar. All .22. The groups were with 80's scopes, 4x32. I obtained a 1/2 inch group at 20 yards with the open sights on the RB2. Had to borrow Mercury front sight for the RB2. I would be happy with a 1/2 inch group at 30 yard with any of my springers....but 45/50 yards?? Obviously if using for HFT you would want a .177.
