    Hand Held Weather Stations

there is a trend in South Africa at the moment for these hand held weather stations Kestrel 4500.

it has been found that low temp with humidity and higher temp with no humidity have POI shifts that are enough to miss a 40mm kill zone at 50m.

what is your experience in the UK, i know that our weather can change from 25C to 15C in 2 hours so this could have a big effect.

is it worth the tom to be able to know what the weather is doing?

if it will get me one extra shot then it iw worth all the money spent.

    Errol.

I have found that cold weather and the humidity approaching condensation point will lower the POI. As soon as the air temperature drifts away from the dew point then a normal POI is restored.

I don't believe this is anything to do with muzzle energy being different when the rifle is cold, it's to do with external ballistics.

Most definitely on my own course, on a cold and damp morning soon after sunrise, the 55 yarders need another ten clicks of a 1/8 scope. An hour or so later this won't be necessary.

Isn't this what the new Daystate measures and compensates automatically?

Or did I read the spec wrong, I must admit I wasn't paying much attention
