    FAC for air rifle

Hi all, Can anyone guide me as to where I can find the requirements for what I need to obtain the paperwork for a higher powered airgun. I assume that whatever it is, it would not be as stringent as for a shotgun or bullet type rifle, but after a brief search I couldn't get the answer, and I know lots of you out there will have a (legal) FAC gun.
    Many Thanks - HoraceM

Any air rifle over 12ft lbs energy is deemed a firearm... And all the requirements are the same as applying for a rimfire or centrefire.

Only difference is that lead pellets for ammo aren't controlled or put on your cert.

You have to jump through more hoops to get a air rifle on fac than to get a shotgun.

It is Jim and I can't think why except that rather than create yet another "system" re FAC air rifles the powers that be note that by far the majority of initial FAC air rifle shooters go on to rimfire at least and a good proportion move up to centrefire. Given this, it just keeps the FAC system easier to manage.

I've no idea whether what I say is true but that's my guess!

I never gave it a thought, but now that I do, you're probably right, Alan. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense - you can sure do a lot more damage with a shotgun than with most FAC air rifles! Unless the idea is just to try to more strongly regulate any firearm with a rifled bore: one that can be better aimed and whose potential damage can be better directed at a distance. (?)

That makes some sense, when you realize that .22 rimfire cartridge rifles, just like the more powerful air rifles, are likewise more strongly regulated than shotguns. And, you can do more damage with a shotgun than with a .22 rimfire rifle, also.

But, you're probably right: it was probably done that way just for administrative simplicity.

Thanks for comments so far but other than the link to the form on the police site, I was actually hoping that someone would give me some idea of where I could find stuff like:
    Is a gun cabinet reqd?
Are pellets reqd to be segegated?
Designated shooting field(s) - minimum size?
etc. etc - that sort of thing.
    Thanks again

    Yes
    No
Varies, depends more on layout/what's around you than purely size

yes you will need a gun cabinet as with any fac rated weapon, no you dont need to segregate the pellets they are they same as any other pellet, as for land I would imagine a couple of acres might suffice but phone you local police and ask for the number of their firearms licencing office, phone them they will have all the answers
There is no such thing as a dangerous gun, there are dangeruous people though
