    Question BSA S10 problems

    Need help here please.

How much oil should there be around the trigger/bolt area of these? I seem to remember it should be pretty much dry in order for the hammer to work properly.

The reason I'm asking is the one I've just got 2nd hand has got a lot of oil around the bolt and up inside the trigger area. Could almost call it dripping, almost.

It's also shooting .177 AA Fields out at anything, and I mean anything, between 540 and 700 fps. So I thought it could aybe the drag on the hammer.

Anyone had one of these apart for cleaning?

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Steve,
    Check your PM.

I would strip it down and check all the seals (sp), Im thinking it's unlikey that the bolt has so much lube its hitting the reg valve with such random pressures.
Strip it down, de-grease the lot of it, check all the seals, especially the one in the barrel breach, and the ones in the reg.
Put a little grease on the bolt and on the exterior of the hollow thingy that houses the hammer spring.

    Regards,

    Dave

Thanks for that Dave, much appreciated.

There is so much oil that it's starting to run down the stock where the bolt comes out the back of the action. Is this much likely to effect the hammer?

    Thanks again,

    Steve

Spoke to John Bowkett and it's now going back for repair as he says that sort variation is probably not down to oil.

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Hi Steve

I got my .22 S10 back from John Bowkett today.

To say I am pleased is an understatement - it shoots like a different gun. Much smoother cocking and the trigger is much improved. The gun is also quieter.

Mr Bowkett is a true craftsman and his prices are very reasonable.

    Cheers
    Jon

It went off to him this morning, all nicely wrapped up in bubble wrap and boxed

Bunnies are safe for another weekend Not that they're in much danger anyway

    Cheers,

    Steve
