What do you do in the following situation?
You're shooting with a lad who's used to shooting FT style and is with his dad (who's not shooting) and he sticks a foot and a half of shooting cushion under his knee, shin and ankle. It's clearly breaking the UKAHFT rules as regards shooting cushions being knee protection only.
In addition Dad is coaching said lad. Not in terms of shot post-mortem but before each peg.
You point out the kneeling cushion thing in a friendly "Don't want you to lose any points for this mate" kind of way (the coaching is unsporting but not in the rules so...) and both lad and his dad tell you basically you're wrong (because there's a tiny glimmer of light at the ankle where there's somethig like 1mm of clearance ). Nobody backs you up. You offer to call a marshal and you're derided by everybody on your peg.
This happened on the first shoot of a double header and so because of the atmosphere the weekend was spoiled for me.
You know what, unless someone is unequivocally cheating I'm not going to intervene anymore.
i've seen this with the cushion under the knee, imo it's an unfair advantage to the shooter, i don't carry one to put my gun on because i have a sling fitted, is it to simple to say ; no kneeling on cushions,for resting guns on only;
wear a kneepad if you so wish, level playing field for all then.
Don’t you find it Funny that after Monday(M) and Tuesday(T), the rest of the week says WTF?
With regards to the kneeling I think it should be the proper 3 point kneeling...
Flat foot, knee and toe.
Sitting on a turned foot is a no no but I also think that shooting on a flattened foot is also deemed as being the same. Also using the bean bag to support the shin in this kneeling position is wrong and should not be tolerated.
This is my opinion and not that of the UKAHFT.

That is why i started this thread not as to name names but give some FAQ and hope everyone gets some answers so that problems like this can be addressed.
On your way round the course you will see marshals so without calling one you will be able to put these people straight then on the 2nd day if no changes were made point the errors out again and if they still continue a few zeros to their card may make them sit up and listen.
It's a fair point about the cushion thing - I think they introduce an unecessary element of artificiality anyway and should be binned, but rules are rules and we should stick with them. However, do you really begrudge a father coaching his lad round the course? What could he really do other than suggest a range or a good position to take the shot from? If it's really an issue then could there not be a case for not taking things quite so seriously? Just a thought, offered in a spirit of friendly enquiry!
As to claiming plates for misses - yes, it's dead wrong, but if someone's that small-minded then I'd have no problem with giving them a doughnut and letting them argue the toss with me and with the marshals.
Here's one for you, though. I shot Basingstoke this year with a bloke who plated the wrong target - I didn't realise he was aiming off. He wasn't in the running for a top spot so I gave him a point - he was happy, and I was happy. I shot Basingstoke last year (second HFT shoot, a nightmare) and saw someone watch their partner take aim at the wrong target, take the shot and drop the target, then instantly say; "that's a zero, I'm afraid". I figured that was pretty unsporting. What say you?

I'd say it was the rules.
I've taken the wrong target out altogether, the previous lane, so I effectively shot it twice.DOH! I accepted the 0 & moved on. Mea Culpa.
It has got to be the Shooter's responsibility to recognise, select, aim at & shoot the target.
Having said that, if I saw someone lining up the wrong target I think I would mention something, courtesy.
I can see both points. However, if I was a junior competing against the coached lad without the benefit of my own coaching I suspect I'd be pretty annoyed. There's a time and place for coaching and encouragement. I don't believe that full blown competition is one of them.
Fabricatum diem, pvnc!
This all puts an interesting but dissapointing slant on things. I've put my name down for the Kibworth shoot in a couple of weeks and it will be my first time doing HFT. I've been looking forward to this and I only want to go there and test myself and perhaps have a chat/laugh with like minded chaps.
This all sounds a bit serious TBH.

And no doubt you will go there and enjoy yourself, you have no reason not to. There are only a few cheats out there same as any sport, most of the UKAHFT rules were written to stop one or two cheats thats all. So please go out and enjoy your shooting. Oh and if that Kieran Turner shows up, watch your car doesnt have a rucksack left by it
