    If I was the 3 rd shooter in this group I'd be well pi44ed off!
    I would only be pissed off if I was the first shooter and the other two would only discuss opinions as to range after I had shot. As far as I am concerned, if shooters wish to discuss what they think the range is, they can. I will only shoot for the range I think it is because I missed too many targets in the early days due to someone elses idea of how far the target was.

    How very very sad. Sad for many reasons.

    You will come away from any shoot with one or more of 4 things:
    • Nothing
    • A piece of plastic
    • A new friend
    • Your self respect
    Work out what your goal is and behave accordingly

    Reading posts like this makes me glad to have retired from the target scene, because the venom and animosity as highlighted on this thread together the behind the scenes politics and bitching, will kill the sport.

    I have shot against the very best, against Sparky, Stancomb, Rosser, Wilson and Samson in the years I competed. Wilson taught me kneelers, Owen helped me zero my rifle on windy day, Dave loaned me a rifle, Brian and Pete shared tips and techniques with me and gave me constant encouragement. Bear in mind we were vying for top spot not an extra point to catapult us into to top 100. These guys cheat? if they were worried about the plastic I'd have known.

    Both FT and HFT shooters need to realise that in the great scheme of things the sport is a flea on an elephant, nobody outside the few who shoot them give a rats ar$e. Nobody asks for autographs, nobody makes any money at it.

    I attend the shoots for the people, I've made some good friends at them. Interestingly guys on here I've not got on with have become friends - Mr Andy J for one. So here's my advice, define cheating as

    ...something who intentionally deprives another person of material or intellectual gain or enjoyment....

    So, a new kid gets help from his Dad and knocks a few more targets down? good for you Dad. Your shooting partner is a millimetre off the peg or his knee is a fraction over the beanbag? Get a life. Have a word afterwards and tip him the wink. He's taking a kneeler and it should be a stander and you keep quiet? you're a total tosser.

    I'm holding my hand up and admit to cheating. I've coached people on the way round. I've given advice on distance and windage. I've let people take a second shot when they've shot the wrong target (a marshall watched them do it then laughed). Did it effect anything? did it except to send somebody home a bit happier. These were all novices who may or may not come back.

    On the other hand if you seek to gain advantage for you or somebody else at the expense of a third party by helping them then it's cheating in it's worst form. How many juniors have lost trophies because little Tommy's dad helped him with ranges and their didn't? if it's one it's too many, and while Dad got him a trophy little Tommy lost a damn sight more in terms of example and later respect for Dad.

    Just remember - rules are no substitute for common sense, and plastic is no substitute for self respect. Think otherwise and you'll lose your sport(s)

    Sorry, I meant to say "if I was the 3rd in the group", not "shooting 3rd"

    HERE HERE well put Gary. By cheating the only person you cheat at the end of the day is yourself . I need all the help I can get but not by cheating . Hughie

    I'm not going to quote it verbatim, I don't need to. Gary's post is one of the best I've seen on here in a very very long time.

    * Your self respect
    * A new friend
    * Nothing
    * A piece of plastic

    I hope to come away from every shoot with two or three of these, but have ordered them above in terms of importance.

    If you want to achieve at all costs, go right ahead.

    If you want to enjoy a weekend shooting with like minded people, enjoying the company and the participation do that too.

    I will remember a great weekend long after your trophy is forgotten.

    This thread is growing faster than I can read.

    So I'll just say, do we have cheats at PARC?

    I think that should be the post to cap this thread off?

    I'd say that like the majority of people who shoot HFT I enjoy putting a good score in but i'm going to rekindle possibly my favourite HFT shoot.

    Quarry 2006 now by some fluke I'd put myself in the fray for a shot at the UKAHFT title, don't ask me how but I did, if I shot well at Quarry I'd be really in for an easyish ride in the final round.

    It was pi55ing it down and I was shooting with Graham Guest and Mark Andrews, first few shots were routine then I got down pulled the trigger and a big poof of water spray exited the pre silencer on my rifle with a pellet in somewhere this was followed by........ nothing. Yes thats right absolutley nothing, no dink, just nothing!
    I layed there for a second thinking "bugger" then got up and both Graham and Mark were talking to someone and hadn't watched me at all and hadn't really payed attention to my shot, they asked "you get it Kieran?" I just said "nope" they said "just the 1 then" to which I replied "no mate I missed completley".
    No bearing in mind that shot basically ended any ideas about winning the championship and the bit of plastic that goes with it. To cut a long, wet, cold story short I really enjoyed Quarry, the people I shot with were up there with some of the best I've shot round with and despite being freezing very very wet and with not a chance of winning the UKAHFT bit of plastic It was one of the best UKAHFT rounds I've ever shot!
    Why, because I had my self respect and I made two really good mates! Now if you'd ask me if I'd of done that season any different, I wouldn't, I wouldn't change a thing!
