    Guessing game

Anyone know what this is? I know it's not an airgun but it is interesting....
Anyone feel like valueing it, complete with box? I understand the box is much rarer than the already rare gun.

It looks like the trainer version of the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) which is an air gun. It was used for training during world war 2.

Looks more like a Pattern 14 (or 17), although without the characteristic bolt handle.

It's a training rifle based on the SMLE as Luddite guessed but it's earlier than WWII (twenties, I believe) and doesn't actually fire anything. It simulates the recoil of the working gun as there's a big spring inside and a spike comes out of the front to puncture a target placed just in front of the gun and show POI. To find one with a matching box is extremely rare and we don't know its value yet.

    More pics here and here.

Their were used as a training aid by the Home Guard to simulate sighting and firing without the need for live fire.

I agree with Iain it looks much more like the P14 action than an SMLE. I rember seeing an article in one of the shooting mags a few years ago but dont recall what gun the trainer was based on.
