    Target Air rifle/pistol questions

    Hi
Is anyone able to answer the following?

    1. In target shooting with air rifle or airpistol at 10m or any other or intermediate range, is the target set at the eyelevel of each individual shooter or at a set level irrespective of individuals height?

    2. In measuring or setting out the range how is the distance worked out? From target to muzzle, from target to breech or some other measurement?

    3. Are the rules available on a website?

I'm a novice but if going to do it for own pleasure would prefer to follow the rules.

    Thanks
    Steve

Target height for 10mtr is 1.4mtrs +/-0.05mtr to the centre of the bull using a single diagram target. Shooting distance is measured from the face of the target horizontally to the firing point & your feet must not touch the demarcation line.

Target height for 6yd is now generally accepted as being 5ft to the centre of the bull on a bell target (although 5'3" used to be popular) or 5ft to the centre of the middle diagram on a 5 bull target however, you need to check with each individual league you intend to shoot with.
Distance is often measured horizontally but a few bell target leagues measure diagonally.

    Hope this helps

Rules for all the Olympic disciplines (not bell target) are maintained by the ISSF and are available online:

I've often wondered the same thing when measuring the distance as in darts..from the face of the target, is the 'Oche' exactly 10m measuring along the floor? If so and you stand on the 10m line, the muzzle will be a full arms length over the line, so the distance will be shorter......or will it?

The distance for ranges is always measured hozizontally from the face of the target. The line will be marked at the front of the firngpoint in no position may the shooter or any equipment the the shooter is wearing may touch the ground infront of the shooting line. So in the prone position you may place your arm on the ground just behind the line with your hand projecting in front along with the rifle.
