    BSA Mercury Challenger

    Chaps - need you assistance.

I have a BSA Merc Chall DL in .22. Needs a bit of TLC - have you undertaken a refurbishment of one before?

In particular I want to re-black the aluminium trigger unit and back strap - does anyone know what paint to use for this?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    trigger block

Hammerite smooth black paint available from halfords in airosol cans is perfect for the job and if you follow the insructions carefully it will look like new

Remember that the paint will need a few weeks to fully harden so handle carefully until really hard.

On Aluminium, a primer is recommended. If you choose not to use the primer then it will probably be better not to go for a polished finish prior to applying the paint
Remove old finish with cellulose thinners and/or wire wool
You will notice that there is a primer underneath the original paint
    Hope this helps

    Thaks John

John - just what I was looking for, many thanks for that.
Have you renovated many BSA's? Have three on the go at the moment a Meteor Mk1, BSA Club Standard (late) and the Challenger - pass the time really.
I was looking to take the stock back to and then bring it back to a new finish; the varnish layer seems mighty thick though.

    Thanks John
Regarding the use of Hammerite smooth black paint, I used the brush on type to touch up some damage on my Webley Premier (the rear plug) and this matched in very well so would whole heartedly support your reccomendation.
    Cheers Keith
