Help with info/value on old airguns?

    Hi All,

Just been pointed out that I should have posted this thread in here, rather than in the general section.

Does anyone know anything, or where to find out about a really old airgun marked Tell I think it is made by a German company called Venus-Waffenwerks. It was given to my neighbour 40 years ago, and was being thrown out as scrap then, so I assume that its even older.
I googled Tell and Venus Waffenwerks and airgun and got a reference to the big blue book of airguns but that is about all. It looks like a rifle version of the Tell 1.
The only marking is TELL on the barrell. It is a .177 and uses a strip of leather for a seal round the breach. It still seems to work, but from the ease with which i cocked it, the spring is pretty gone.
My neighbour is moving away so i promised him i'd see if it was worth anything, if not I'll buy it off him for a few quid as for some reason I really like it (must be turning into an anorak in my old age.)

Anyone know anything about it? Or where I can check to see if its valuable?
If I take it off him I want to try to find out a bit about it. I'll post photos in a bit once i've worked out how.

He also has a webley scott .22 vulcan that is about 30 years old that seems in working order, but with a well used stock. Rough ideas on value again would be appreciated.

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers

The Tells were common prewar break barrels made by Oscar Will. Yours has no barrel lever lock so is the break barrel model made in small numbers until 1939, according to Dennis Hiller. The trigger looks like a crude replacement one and the adjuster screw is missing. If complete and in full working order without cracks in the stock, good examples of these rifles can be worth over £100. At a guess I'd say someone might pay £30-50 for yours.

    Garvin,

Many thanx for the info on that. I feel much better offering my neighbour 40 quid or so for it now. It looks pretty awful, but points so well, and feels really nice to shoot now i've plinked a couple of cans. Plus I love shooting a gun thats around 70 years old For just having fun i can see me picking it up before my lightning!

Now I'd better see about trying to sell this vulcan for him.

    Cheers
