OX-Mainspring, too long?

unfortunately for your statement is largely false,most of us senior bbs members have received guns with ox springs fitted and had them fitted during our younger days when we didn't know any better and before the days when facilities like this bbs was even thought of,so we know how bad they are.

not a zillion like in "ive told you a zillion times dont exaggerate"ok some people like them some (more forcefully) dont why dont you do a poll on it ,i tried one in a 35 and nearly shook it to bits but there seems to be one in the vulcan i just bought and thats nice and smooth

posts has little to do with it,it comes down to how many years you have been shooting...i've been shooting airguns since 1984 plus fired c/f,r/f,bp firearms.

ox springs are magnum rated so fitting them in non magnum air rifles is bad news but there are the few exceptions.

Jeez, does no one listen to advice anymore? The BBS is a gold mine of great info from those that have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. IF YOU LISTEN TO THEM you'll save yourself lots of money, heartache and bother and you can get on with enjoying the shooting. If you want to wreck your guns and then spend hours and much money fixing them go right ahead - you can't lead a horse to water after-all

I put one in when I was young and stupid... and trusted my local gunshop that it was actually half decent. It was proper ******e in my Vulcan to be honest. Then I put a gas ram in, and now it shoots quite nicely.

Just for the hell of it I tried to get the Ox spring working nicely, I cut several coils off it and gave the ends some serious polishing. It is only 'OK' - Id much rather have a decent spring or even just a plain old replacement one from Chambers than get an Ox spring again. Bloody 'orrible things.

I got a chambers ultra spring for my webley stingray, it's now in the bin it was so poor, go figure
