Old Krico - new look

I bought my Krico 260 .22LR semi-auto off here last year.

It's now 22 years old, but is superbly built and shoots very accurately.

I liked it so much I decided to give it some TLC.

The stock had been painted camo by its previous owner, but I wanted plain black and decided to try DuraCoat, which I'd read about here.

Being a semi-professional model-maker and pretty handy with an airbrush I was originally going to do it myself, but in the end laziness took over and I sent it off to James Clark at Jager Sporting Arms (Kaleiderscope on here) who did a great job. The DuraCoat has completely cured and is rock hard, but flexible.

I had intended to get the action and barrel reblued, but was constantly let down by the agent who took on this job.

In the end I got them back off the guy in question and sent them off to James for him to DuraCoat as well.

Again, the finish is superb and the action has been Parkerised inside. The working parts are now as slippy as a very slidey thing.

I went for "gun blue" colour, but with hindsight would've preferred black. I mentioned this in passing to James and he offered to redo it for me!

That was a great offer, but one I didn't take him up on, as it wasn't his fault I'd chosen one particular colour over another.

So all in all I'm very pleased with the finish and extremely pleased with James' service. He kept me constantly updated every step of the way.

I haven't had it out in the field since it received its "DuraLove", but I'm sure it will handle as good as it looks - and take the rigours of the field in its stride.

Nope, they were only in production for a very short time in the mid-80s. They did a bolt action version as well.

Mine is 1986 vintage (helpful chap at Krico chased the serial no for me).

I have seen them on Guntrader and there's a German website called eGun where they appear fairly regularly.

I forgot to say mine came from Baz and received his trademark chop job. Very well done it was too.

krico make excellent rifles you can still get them but the rimfires and small c/fires are mainly sold under the weihrauch name here.

Hi, Krico carried on making mags a few years after the rifle went OOP, but later stopped, saying they were too expensive to manufacture.

I've seen some nice ones for sale on eGun.de (German gun auction site) but the ones I wanted were being sold by someone who wouldn't send overseas.

I'm hoping to get a couple from the IWA show in March.

They are very similar to CZ mags, but the CZ would need to be reworked a fair bit, maybe this would be no problem.

If the IWA option doesn't work out then I'll be in touch!

Well, that's really tricky to answer. What's reasonable to one person may be a lot to someone else.

What rifle were you thinking of? And how small is small regarding mag capacity? Five rounds? Ten?

In the case of the Krico I've now spent more than I would have on a brand new Ruger 10/22.

But having seen a guy at my club fuming because his 10/22 has been failing to repeatedly shoot accurately, maybe that's not such a bad thing. And my rifle is certainly unusual, if not unique.

But the one thing I do hate about the Krico is the lack of spare mags.

I'm on the lookout for at least one 10-round mag, although two five-round ones would do the job.
