    leather piston

    please can someone tell me what sort of oil to soak a leather piston washer in,, its on the piston (it looks saveable) of an old HW35E,it dosent say "E" But it is an early EXPORT 22 INCH BARREL, Also the breach seal looks steel,is this normal,, and would a new type breach seal be OK, THIS GUN IS A MESS, but I am trying to save it,,it belongs to a mate of a mate, even got the irons fitted and correct stock. IT must be getting on a bit,"EGDAR BROTHERS LIVERPOOL) any other advice welcome,,thanks ANT.

    OK, so after the soak in Neats-foot oil do I put any molly on the seal or just use as is.

    I also use Neatsfoot oil. A can of this stuff will last me several lifetimes.
    Personally I don't use moly on the leather seal itself just on the metal to metal contact areas of the piston.

    Like Chris (Sam) said, there's no reason to add anything to the seal itself, I'd save the moly for the piston skirt and spring.

    Seal now soaking in NEATS-FOOT OIL, In the side pocket of the old gun bag the 35 was,, a MAGNUM Square section spring in a seald bag £2.50, and a tin of pellets price 30p, just need a new breach seal and we will be rockin n rollin"

    An overnight soak in Neats Foot Oil works for the washer, the breech seal should be plastic.

    If it has the 22" barrel then it's an 'E', they don't state that on the block.
