PLease can we have an update on the work at stoke Mandiville
Dave
I believe that a quote for the work to the roof has been surrendered but we still need to sort out the scaffolding needed for access by the roofing company.
The quote for the roof came in at ~ £13,000, somewhat shy of the original expectation of £30,000.
The roofing company need to do their work before ay of the remaining work can continue. Paul [Lobberman] will know more of the timings involved, but he's a busy fella and has taken a weeks holiday to be with his family.
The project has so far raised somewhere around £16,000 so we still need donations from people to make it possible to buy materials etc.
This project is still very much a 'Go'.

At the moment we have the following
1. The quotation for the overspraying of the roof with polyurethane foam, giving insulation and waterproofing. £13'500.00 + VAT
2. The materials for the rebuilding of the rear elevation have been donated by Mears Group High Wycombe.
3. The asbestos removal from the rear elevation has been donated by European Asbestos Services West Drayton.
We still need to arrange the following
1. Edge protection to the allow the roofing works to be carried out (double handrail of scaffolding to all edges)
2. Delivery of the materials for the re-building of the rear elevation, there is a lot of these and probably 10 volunteers will be required to unload and store them safely (many hands will make light work of this)
3. Source a company and obtain a quotation for re-lining 62 lm of galvanised steel box gutters
4. Arrange for the asbestos to be removed from the rear elevation (ideally this will be carried out the day before we start rebuilding the rear elevation)
If anyone can help with 1 and 3 above that would be much appreciated 2 and 4 will need about 2 weeks notice to get done and I can arrange for them once we have dates when people can help out with the unloading and the rebuilding....
I am sure if we all pull together we can get the roof and the rear elevation completed by October and then we can start to look at the inside of the building..
I know this seems to be taking an age to get started but we need to get the works done properly so they last and the shooters here get the most benefit...

I have just recieved an email from the roofing contractor with a quotation for the above, this has come in at £1500.00 plus VAT and is for a 4 week hire period, unfortunately there is no discount if the scaffold is used for less than this time.
I have also asked for lead in time and the time it will take them to complete the works..

The roofing works will take about 1 week to complete and there is a lead in time of 3-4 weeks at the present time

You could use something like this or this it needs no specialist knowledge to apply and will last for ages. (about ten years) I have used it in the past on large galvanised box gutters with good effect. We used one of our own labourers to do the job and even though he wasn't the sharpest chisel in the box he did it really easily.
The good thing about it would be with the offer of free labour from here it would cut the cost considerably.
Nice one Steve I had seen the Acrypol before but had no experience of it on box gutters. That looks just the ticket, might have to see if they feel like donating to a worthy cause when I'm back off me hols
Cheers

Just to say Well done Terry. The original post in this thread has been printed as star letter in the latest BASC magazine. I will be sending a cheque and am available anytime for a bit of labouring .
God Bless You for what you have said, I know it to be true.
My late Son Douglas was disabled and in his younger days he played Basketball at natiional level and in the late 1980's/early 90's the conditions at Stoke were 3 x F's, plus a few other words. It took a lot of heated discussions to get things on equal par with the facilities for the able bodied.
In the last few years of his life he was into Archery, the facilities in this sport were fantastic as the disabled were able to train and shoot with the abled bodied.
I would like to make a donation to help get things sorted out so that Disabled Air Gunners can enjoy the sport without any hassle.
Please if you can find out to whom I can send my donation or can we start something up in this forum, please would you contact me. Take Care and Thank You for bringing this to our attention. Roy
Hi Roy, and welcome.
I'm sorry to hear of your talented son, he sounds like just the kind of person this cause is supporting.
The details for making donations can be found in this post.
We've already raised a sum approaching £20,000 and work has begun in earnest!
We could always do with more contributions, so please, dig deep and spread the word.
Best regards,
Pete.

Gulp
Typical, it's always those with so little that give so much
What a sorry state of affairs
I'm a maggot in another life you know
HI Pete,
The roof looks 100 times better, that ditch needs digging ASAP with winter rolling in, any plans for a one day ditch work party ( six bodies maybe ).
Regards
Surprised the beeb or other media have not done an article on this.
“If a cricketer, for instance, suddenly decided to go into a school and batter a lot of people to death with a cricket bat, which he could do very easily, I mean, are you going to ban cricket bats?” :- Prince Philip said after Dunblane
Shame theres nothing on their website to show what is being done for them.

not even a mention in their links about this site.
But still, I guess those who are giving so generously ask nothing in return.

I can do next Friday or Saturday, mate. I don't know how that will tie-in with you?
If there's anybody else who's up for a bit of digging at the end of the week, please say so.
All that needs to be done is a channel cut through the ground which runs along side one wall. There's water getting in through the wall, so if the channel is cut along side the wall it will stop water getting in.
Pete.
