Plastic buckles on gun bags.

I've just had a thought.
I travel alot by m/bike & use Logun gun bags with plastic buckles & plastic strap mounts.
If these were to break I don't fancy the chances of my rifles surviving.
Maybe not much can happen if walking but has anyone had the plastic fittings break ?
They are on most gun bags by the look of it nowadays, not just Logun.
Plastic goes brittle with age ?
Should I worry ?

i wouldn't to be honest.

my step dad does a lot of climbing and has been using the same karrimor rucksack for about 12 years and is yet to break any of the plastic buckles / straps and its been in snow holes, ski-slopes, direct sunlight, rivers, lakes and more. if anything will fatigue the plastic the treatment this thing has been given will!!!!


of course, there is the possibility the buckles logun use aren't nearly as high quality in which case i'd maybe keep an eye on them for signs of stress fractures!

I had exactly the same thought about my Logun backpack so i added a cable tie to each connection,just in case.

i use a web-twx sniper bag with plastic clips, no problem there!
but i used to use a bsa bag with metal clips. both of which snapped!!!
not at the same time tho fortunatley

i've had soldier's PLCE bergens in used condition with broken buckles. But then again, if a squaddie can't break it; a baggage handler can!

Some buckles have a cheaper grade of plastic than others.

Just keep check on the plastic and definately keep an eye on the webbing straps as one fray or cut can start the whole ball rolling.

I swear gun bag manufacturers aren't keeping up with the amount of stuff that sticks out of the side of rifles (i.e. cocking handle, saddle focus with wheel or scope turrets) and coupled with the size of scopes (sometimes with a laser on top); the bag gets stretched out in a couple of directions. I've had customers return BSA bags where the material by the zips has pulled away from the stitching. But then, they are quite well padded bags.

I have a logun backpack. The buckles haven't broken but the stitching for the nylon webbing securing the buckle to the bag did!
Fortunately, the other strap held so my gun didn't hit the deck.

Not Just me then!! both mine broke on the first outing, it was diecast metal and BSA kindly sent me a new set by return post which were made differently, probably a known fault which was sorted quickly. New ones perfect. I have plastic ones on several things and they are fine.

i dropped an airwolf, breaking the stock when a cheap gun bag zip popped open. my guns travel in my daystate case mat now.

I was at a clay shoot earlier this year, walking down a rough path the guy infront of me had the zip go on his bag, his £1k + Beretta fell out onto the stoney path!

Had a plastic buckle go on my gunbag whilst riding my motorcycle.
Interesting holding onto the bag and operating the clutch etc.
Luckily I was quick to grab the bag and had a strap to secure the gun/bag to my luggage rack.
