    Pistol Silencer

    Hi Guys,
Has anyone got any plans or ideas as to how to make a small silencer?
I purchased one for my CP99 (dedicated with the bracket) and I was not impressedat all
When I complained to the shop I got it from he told me "Well its for asthetic's isnt it?"
I need one that will cut down the sound not one that looks good
I am now out of work so purchasing a new one is out of the question.

    Suppressors

The principal is pretty straightforward - mounting is the problem, since any misalignment will cause the pellet to hit the silencer.

    These pages might help:

    Cheers Jethro,
Looked at those links, very interesting indeed.
I knew the theory behind them.
Just need to convert the heap of crud I have to something that will allow me to play in the garden!

    Thanks again

    Tony,
I'm in the first stages of making my own for a rifle, and an adaptor for my pistol(s). I'll let you know how I get on.
Got some different lengths/dia's of plastic conduit, washers and packing etc.

Hi Russ, Thanks for that. I saw somewhere a while back somewhere someone had used penny pieces or similar to build one!

I got my my R-77 this morning, cant play outside with it yet though as its blowing a gale. (Will continue with this on your original r77 thread.)
I look forward to seeing your results mate.

The problem with the majority of co2 pistols is that a lot of the noise doesn't actually come from the barrel , it comes from around the grip area where most co2 carts are housed .

Its worth bearing in mind that some pistols will never be quiet .

Is that the one that uses the pennies as baffles?

Only as a stop-gap on a couple I did as I had run out of the correct diameter brass bar that I usually make them from.

    Will that ever go away.......

    Cheers Dave,
I had thought about that after I fired my cp99 without a mag in the gun.
There was a distinct hiss from the slide from the loading port

I was talking to another member of the club that I use. He also has a CP99 and he uses a silencer on his his 99 and swears its whisper quiet.
He suggsted buy the same silencer that is on the clubs HW97, but being out of work now I'm skint Hence I need to make one or modify the one I have.

    Hiya Neil,
I think that method of making baffles was sooooo Cool even though its technically a poorly preditory bird

Guess you could say that it only cost pennies to make

I dont have any metal work tools other than a few drill bits, so drilling out brass rods and that sort of thing is well out of my league

Many thanks for the inspiration though

    Tony try this ..

...I saw a really good idea re making baffles for one of the modern BSA pcp's - Superten I think - fat barrel shroud with an internal barrel about 5 inches short of the end of the shroud muzzle ....the guy used a pile of different hair curlers - big ones small ones , the type you get in old fashioned shops ....used these cut short and squashed into the shroud down on top of the barrel muzzle , lined up with a pencil to prevent alignment probs etc etc - - looked bizarre - all bright flourescent pinks and yellows until the end cap forced back on ...and now whisper quiet !

re my Beretta with a Venom fat silencer on - the key bit is the small adapter not every gun is like the Beretta with a projecting barrel muzzle . On my Cp88 the cast metal outer is longer than the internal steel barrel - you could see if this zinc / alloy could be cut/threaded ......and this muzzle opened out to 1/2" and then buy a good secondhand silencer to match.
