    What cap size?

I just bought a new Uberti 1861 Navy, 36 cal.

What cap size should I use? 10 or 11? I keep hearing both from people. The gun's manual does not specify.

I heard using the wrong cap size can lead to a chain fire, from cap not fitting well on the nipple. Help me make the right choice as I haven't fired the gun yet, and I don't want my first shot to be a chain fire!

    Talking cap size

I use Remingtons number #11, the number #10 are too small for my .36 Uberti, happy shooting, Tezz

    Hi

Found this on the Uberti website "troubleshooting section"
    __________________________________________________ __________
    Uberti Black Powder Revolvers
Revolver will not consistently fire the powder charge

Check that the correct size cap (#10) is on the nipple.
Check that the nipple is not fouled with debris.
To prevent oil or water from contaminating the powder, make sure that the chambers are clean and dry prior to loading.
If you are using Pyrodex instead of black powder, you may have to change to a hotter percussion cap in order to get reliable ignition.

    It was on page

    http://www.uberti.com/customer_servi...leshooting.php

Same page mentions #10 nipples twice . but might be worth an email to their Customer Service

    Regards

I've found #11's fine with my 1861 Navy.
