    Ginb stock, which wood?

I'm seriously considering a Ginb stock for my HW100S, model no.1 looks good. I'm not sure which wood to go for, I like the sound of Sono kembang, as I don't want a light coloured stock, but also don't want a heavy one. Has anyone got any experience with Ginb stocks, and can give me some advice?

A possible compromise might be to get the lighter weight teak doreng, but ask for it unvarnished then carefully darken it with a stain and oil finish it yourself.

I was thinking of getting the No1 stock for my HW100.
I saw a No10 stock at the weekend in the darker wood (bloomin' heavy!) which looked very nice. I like the woodgrain on the No10 stock on the website, and I also like the different coloured tip (Schnabel?) on the No5 stock (how is that attached?).
Do they do custom, so I could have a mix?
I think that the thumbhole stocks are about £350, how much are the sporters?

I think that both the Ginb stock woods are relatively heavy. I personally prefer the dark 'sono kembang' but candidly, although the stocks are very well made and shaped, I would only use Ginb if I actually wanted 'weight'-say in a dedicated target rifle. Walnut is-to me-much prettier and better for rifle stocks but walnut doesn't grow in Indonesia and is in any case much more expensive. The reason Ginb stocks are so reasonably priced is that they use native hardwoods.

Hi John, PM 'Tiger' he'll give you a good insight into GINB stocks.

I used Royal London oil with Alkanet on my Teak Ginb #1 for HW100. IME Sono goes very dark when oiled and the grain doesn't show as well as Teak.

Perhaps 'Tiger" could post his insights on this thread (please)?

POK, that is achingly beautiful. Thanks for posting the picture.
Anyone got any more pictures on Ginb sporter stocks, please?

Pok. Fantastic stock, thanks for the photo. What's the weight like? I hunt with mine, as well as HFT. Let's have some more Ginb piccies!

    Here are mine:

    Sono Kembang

The sono is quite a bit heavier.

Personally I would never stain either, just enjoy them for the natural woods they are.

Both of mine were hand oiled rather than lacquered.
