Not me, mate - just too busy and all that.

I've been thinking about this shoot and I've come to the conclusion that I won't be taking part. Too much training required, too much messing about sorting the right hardware, too much time needed when I'm already extremely divorceable due to the demands of my job, the airgun spokesman stuff, this BBS and my precious, therapeutic fishing, and, possibly most importantly of all, that my match shooting days are over.

And don't bother telling me that I could just turn up and have a go, because I couldn't. If I couldn't be me, or a fair representation of me, then I wouldn't enjoy it. Sad but true. Anyway, by the time it's organised, the HFT boys will be celebs themselves.

In fairness to Terry and the rest of the "Celebs" I have to agree with him for 2 reasons.

First and foremost they would want to shoot like a world champion and their shooting partners would want them to do the same. There is no point Terry / Dave or anybody else turning up to shoot against the likes of Sparky, Dave Stannicomb, Tony De X, plus any of the crop of FT boys joining such as Tim Finlay, Owen Rosser, Paul Wilson, Steve Lanniman etc because they would get creamed. Nothing to do with talent - just practice. You can't have one set taking it seriously and the celebs just turning up.

Secondly the argument will then go - "Just to hang out with a celeb". I would counter this by saying just turn up at CLA, Midlands etc. The "Celebs" or "Names" in this sport are not lost in showbiz - they talk to anybody who will buy them beer.

Maybe a better idea would be a HFT open day where the "Celebs" give coaching sessions and the current hard core HFT crew take out "Challengers" on a mini course giving pointers.
A few cold beers and a barby afterwards would make a fun day all could enjoy.

The 'other set' does not have to take it seriously and even if they do, the 'celebs' have nothing to prove as their past achievements speaks for themselves.

It's a good days shooting, mostly amongst friends, and nothing more.

And btw, I wouldn't be too sure about the other set creaming the 'celebs'.

I've got to agree with Terry.

He retired from competitive shooting at the top of his game. If, for instance, he returned to FT, I feel that I would probably beat him. I know that's a big statement to make but Terry probably understands why. In his day he would have absolutely blinded my meager efforts.

There are undoubtably large numbers of "mag-writer-worshippers" who would kill for the chance of beating Terry Doe in competition. I'm one of them, but I would like to have shot against him in his FT prime and due to a lack of progress in time-machine technology that is never to be. I wouldn't take any satisfaction in beating a man who has had as many orthopaedic difficulties as Terry.

As for the rest of them, yes some of them may be able to shoot, but they are, for want of a better word, "Journos" and the ability to write in a magazine doth not a god of shooting make. Get it in perspective.
