The problem with banning replicas is "What constitutes a replica?"

Are airsoft weapons included? Many of these are plastic. Are kids toys replicas? Some look like the real thing.

Blank firers may be convertable but what about pure replicas that have no barrel as such?

It's a minefield as far as definition goes which may be why the government have held off with a ban (so far).

The fact is converting them is illegal so if they stop that illegal source another will be found.

According to the honest and unbiased BBC, 90 guns were seized. Any advance?

I read an article a while ago that it was the Brocock pistols that were the easiest to convert.
Not suprising, they are quite similar to the real thing, bore out the magazine, add a barrel & stronger hammer spring...gun. (doubt its quite that easy..)

and then have it explode in your hand... IF you can get ammo.....
lets face it, (apparently the press wont), if you can get ammo you can get guns.
and anyone who can service their car/ complete tech lessons at school can make a zip gun anyway.

It's all just political bo**ocks, it's got damn all to do with preventing crime. Makes me puke

Does anyone ever sit and wonder why big brother would want to disarm the entire population of law abiding citizens who only require weapons for weekend target shooting and plinking. It can't be just because one or two halfwits have gone crazy with legally held weapons. Otherwise every car owner would have their legally held motor confiscated as more people die worldwide and locally than were ever killed in wars because of so called motor accidents. Even Uncle Joe Stalin only killed about 50 million people, no where near what motor cars kill. So why take everyones gun away, could it be that they can see a future, (A near future) when maybe the (Normally) law abiding citizen will be so p***ed off with Big Brothers antics that they may well resort to armed conflict to sort the b***ers out. Just a thought from a paranoid citizen.

It was exactly that which lead to the introduction of the first firearms laws last century as I understand it.

As far as I understand it most conversions are not to fire standard ammunition. The conversion is to the brocock cartridge itself. Machining the rear of the cartridge to accept a standard (and readily available) blank firer cartridge.

It's still an air rifle pellet thats fired, just powered by the considereable extra force of a blank cartridge.

The resulting pistol is less powerfull than a genuine round firing pistol but still potentially very dangerous and no problems getting ammunition.

This is why the Police, Home Office etc... are so concerned. A rough and ready conversion could be done with as little as a drill and a file for the firing pin.

You are wrong

In Third Reich Germany you could own handguns and rifles. There were various regulations about hunting licenses and permits to carry a pistol in a public place, thats all.

The Daily Telegraph reports that more police officers will be given authority to carry weapons in the near future. There are a lot of them that carry arms anyway and these officers are ordinary, well at least trained, officers.

I think Adolf ended up by giving every citizen a P38, that's why there are so many crummy ones still floating about.

I think the media get it all wrong. It`s not the gun itself but the AMMO that they need to concentrate on. Any engineering student worth his salt could easily make a basic pistol using little more that a small lathe with a milling attachment. OK it won`t look pretty, but it would work. Likewise it is obviously easy to convert "air cartrige revolvers to fire "real rounds", with less workshop tools than you may think. It will not be accurate and may well explode in your face but these guys don`t care about that. I could do the above, BUT I wouldn`t have a clue where to get the ammo.
So why don`t they concentrate on that, or am I missing something obvious.

I agree with both Grendel and Makc.
An armed populace could influence the government in power.
Remember we are not classed as citizens but subjects.
If you can get or make functioning ammunition , you get the ball rolling.
Let's face it. One could use any strong antique gun or say a Schmit- Rubin Swiss rifle of obsolete calibre to convert to a useable weapon for a few hundred pounds and no license etc needed.
I remember a chap in a Bristol Gun Club I was in buying a plastic kit for a Colt Revolver. Taking careful measurements and making a superb repro centrefire pistol. He was a trained gunsmith.
It is the person not the gun.
No gun ever shot anyone. It's he who pulls the trigger.
It does not take much skill to make a matchlock gun.
For powder , why just buy some fireworks or use the propellent from scrapped car airbags.
You don't need the internet just a little warped imagination.
Just enjoy your sport while you can , we'll all disappear soon as the tide of .....grants washes us a way.
Perhaps that is as it should be in a democracy , if we lived in one.Maybe one day we will. In the meantime remember Agincourt !
