    Unhappy musketoon

Just got delivery of my .58 dia. smoothbore Musketoon. ( by Euroarms)
There is a problem however -- it's bore is .57 dia.
I ordered .57 dia. ball to go with it and there is no danger of that ball going down the bore with a linen patch of .005 thickness.
Is the gun faulty and should it go back?
Can't get ball of .560 dia. which would be about right.
.565 dia. ball MIGHT go down with .005 patch but it would be pretty tight. I don't want to start moulding lead again.

Should I send it back as faulty ?

    Hi Evan,
Have you tried contacting the supplier and asking them why they sent you a .57 cal, when you ordered a .58 ?, it might be worth a try, before you think about sending it back. Just a thought

    All the best

I believe the true bore size is .577 and it was meant to use minie balls not patched round balls?

Minies are for rifled barrels - smoothbore used patched ball ......

But sadly I can't offer any advice on EVANJMs original query other than agreeing with LONGREACH - phone the suppliers & check

    Cheers

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I've taken advice from "consumer direct " (office of fair trading)
    Business sellers goods must be
    "of satisfactory quality"
    "as described"
    "fit for purpose"
The carbine meets NONE of these criteria!! and has been returned. I am claiming postage costs back. (both directions) as advised is my right.
If I get no satisfaction I am told to put a claim in to my credit card co.
I ain't holding my breath for a quick resolution.

Hi, dont know if its of intrest to you but Roger at south yorkshire shooting supplies has a parker hale 2 band and a parker hale 3 band in at the moment. Web site is rimfiremagic.co.uk. I have a .577 2 band navy which fires minnie bullets and round ball with a 10 thou patch. Both fire well with the ball hitting slightly higher than the bullet with a lot less recoil due to bullet weight and using less powder. (55grns as apposed to 75 grns.) Both great fun to shoot and far more accurate than i will ever be.

    Hi Tim

Out of interest - what make is your 2-band & what exact cal do you have.

What diameter do the minies & balls you are using measure at

    2 band.

Hi Roy, mine is the parker hale .577 rifled model. The balls i use are .560" with a .010" patch and the bullets are .575". I havent measured the bore but both bullet and ball go down to the bottom with a steady push. Not too tight and not too loose. Both are made from old roofing/piping lead with nothing added. The ball is cast using an alluminium lee mold while the bullets are cast using a steel lyman mold.
If you get one i am more than happy to post a few of each for you to try.
Hope this helps, Best Wishes. Tim

    Hi Tim
If your .577 bullet goes down with a steady push you can bet your bore IS
.577. That bullet would certainly not go down my .57 bore. I am awaiting the Italian factory to return to post hols work on monday and the technical people will comment on my undersized bore.
