    BSP fittings

Can someone put sizes in inches (thou) to thread sizes in BSP

I need to know what air fittings I have on my gear so that the local dive shop can supply a duplicate bit of kit.

I have got a vernier so getting the actual sizes is no problem.
The problem I have is converting them to known BSP sizes.

Am I correct in thinking that the said size is for example..
1/8 BSP is 1/4 inch dia (250 thou)

    BSP

Your Dive shop's a bit 'DAFFY' to say the least, I started diving in the Boy Scouts in 1958. Using BSP (British Standard Pipe) even then, PLUS any plumber worth his salt KNOWS B.S.P. for width it's, about 3/8 inch diameter. Started my engineer apprentership in 1960 and pipe fitter were using BSP.

What part IS it actually that your after? Most items can be sourced from Plumbers Merchants, Gas fitter etc. Or take a look see in Airgun mags, look for the Midland Diving Centre or Crawfords. Ask them and you'll have it asap.

The size (1/4, 3/8, 1/2) is the bore size. Most stuff I've come across on an air rifle is 1/4" though on the bottles up to about 3/8". Be careful that they havent introduced metric into it, BSP has a concave end on a male threaded fittting and quite fine thread. Metric is the same but the thread is coarser ans JIC has a virtual pointed end on a male thread so is quite different. Your best be is yo find a hydraulic hose suppliers. Plumbers dont tend to keep stuff that will take much over 15Bar whereas you need about 300bar and most hydraulic fittings well exceed this. If you cant find a supplier then look for an agricultural engineer, we used to keep loads of them as all farm machinery has hydraulics on of many different configurations.
    Hope it helps

I think you'll find that most guns are actually 1/8 bsp and buddy bottles are 1/4 bsp.
