Its not often I get the iron out, I leave that to the Mrs!
If I wanted to get a couple of minor dings out of a stock (this is not lacquered), would I be right in thinking that I get a damp teatowel, and place if over said area of the stock, and apply a bit of heat for a few seconds?
If so, how hot, and for how long?
The iron has low, med and hot settings.

Delusions of adequacy!
You'll probably find you have to at least re-finish the area you've steamed.
It does work however

Don't have the towel too wet - as mentioned - but DO have it damp enough that steam can actually be generated.
Don't have it too dry either, you could scorch the wood!
Correct, it's the steam that lifts the dints.Don't have the towel too wet - as mentioned - but DO have it damp enough that steam can actually be generated.
Do it a bit at a time, don't go over the same dint too much, if one is stubborn, give it a little go and move on to another then come back to it. Move the stock around in the light to spot the marks.
Gently move the iron around in a circular motion, that's what I found best, you'll need to re-oil afterwards.
Good luck, it's pretty simple but the after effects are worth it.

How many Yorkshire 'dints' are there to a Buckinghamshire 'dent'?
