    Warning to Paypal users

I have just discovered i have been ripped off by a member on here

it was only £10 for a PS3 game but this could just as easily been alot more

Please check that if you recieve a payment that it can not be reversed.

I sent the game after seeing the funds in the paypal account, 2 weeks later the it was reversed no explaination.

I still have a name and address but i deleted all PMs so dont know his user name

    Disturbing

to think this is happening when most (i think) of us have used it at some time on here. Just this AM for me!

Yes and thanks for the payment for the pistol by the way

After a bit of research it seems a reversal or chargeback can be done by the buyer and is meant for when an item is sent faulty or not sent at all
but this has no safeguard against rip off merchants who recieve a perfectly good item but dont want to pay

(second thoughts, maybe i shouldnt have told you that)

I suspect following up on the address will get me nowhere

I think that will be the last time i use paypal

Ain't that true. I have used it for 5 years now, always heard bad stories but never had any problems myself so just kept using it. It's handy for paying for fleabay items and crosman parts which i buy a lot from the states and canada. Well yesterday I get a phonecall at 1am in the morning from a chap in California, stating my name and just confirming that i did want to purchase one of their VPNs(Virtual Private Networks). I told him, that i didn't want to, which he suspected and told me to get onto my paypal account right away. I thanked him for letting me know as he could of just ignored it and accepted the payment but he told me he wouldn't accept it and it would be refunded to my account right away. Logged on to paypal and someone had paid for a Rapidshare premium account for 6.99 euros (around a £5) and tried to pay for this VPN thingy for $45 dollars around £25. Well i changed my password and security stuff straight away, tried to close my account but becaused i have payments pending, i couldn't. Filed unauthorised transaction claims and emailed rapidshare with my complaint.

Luckily this morning i had both unauthorised transactions refunded so i haven't lost any money and a temporary lock placed on my paypal account so i can only receive not spend until further investigations are complete. Just goes to show, i would have had no idea i was being ripped off, i got no emails about it as the hacker probably forwarded them on somewhere else, the transactions weren't in my recent history i had to search for them, i would have only noticed when i checked my bank statement which i don't do that often. Thanks to that chap in America i haven't been seriously done over. Just makes you sick that some scum bag entered my name to pay for these things. Looking at the things my account was used for it was prob some little geeky git sitting behind his computer somewhere in the world. Cheating b######d!!

I think you have to sort it through your card issuer (CC) but check the paypal website

Although banks won't tell you this, the period during which you can effect a chargeback varies between 60 and 90 days from the date of the transaction.

I've never had a Pay-Pal account and thank God too, all I ever hear is stories of con-artists and people getting blagged and ripped off.

Cash, card or cheque for me please- to Pay-bloody-Pal!

This is a good reason to conduct deals on the sales thread rather than by PM or email. It's not just the starter of this thread who suffers - the member concerned in still on here, could pull the same trick again, and the mods don't have a clue who it is.
