    Webley Pellet Boxes

Following on from the picture of the Webley 1000 .177 pellet box, here are a few pictures of a full 500 .177 box from the same period, with the penciled in price of 1/4d still visible, and a couple of a later empty .22 box.
Finally, a couple of Webley .25 pellet packs, both full.

Very interesting items. Thanks for showing them. One has to wonder how FULL packets of pellets have survived so long. Come to think of it who on earth would have thought to save an empty packet 60 or more years ago? Let us just be grateful that they did.
In the early 60s in the U.K. the only pellets I used I think were called Marksman. The cardboard box had a picture of a large single pellet and was printed in red, black and blue on white. If you have a box of these in your collection I’d love to see a picture. I check the trade tables out at collectors meetings here in N.Z. but have yet to see one.

Thanks for the pictures Troubledshooter, very good photos, very interesting to see the old packets.

Barry: We still have 'Marksman' pellets over here, I haven't seen the card boxes for a year or two now but you can still get them in tins. The card boxes were almost the same as you describe and have a definite 'retro' appeal!

    Check these out on Eeb-ay:

To find old full pellet boxes is extremely rare, and in the case of those shown, the .177 came with a cased Senior pistol from the period, and the .25's both came with boxed Service rifles, one of which had a .177 barrel as well as the original .25.
This Service box came with 2 full and 1 part used box of Webley .25's, plus several sealed oblong tins of .177 Webley pellets, and 6 x 200 boxes of Caledonian .177 pellets.
The original owner lived miles from anywhere and rarely used the Service, judging from it's condition, but must have stocked up on pellets whenever the chance arose.
You don't find 'em like that every day.
