maximum distance for a clean kill..

    Hi all
Can you please in your own opinon, tell me what you would advise as the maximum distance required for a clean kill on a rabbit(head shot of course) with a 12lb rifle in a .22..?
    Opinions seem to differ.
I do strongly believe skill plays a massive part.

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,
The pellet will retain enough energy to drop a rabbit at well over 100yds, however, as you already know skill is a major factor. Personally I wouldn't shoot over 45-50yds, 35 preferably as this is my zero so just point & shoot.

The maximum range you should take shots at quarry is the same range as you can put 10/10 shots within an inch circle each and every time.Even one flyer could mean a rabbit dying in agony after it has reached it burrow..

I personally with a .22 rifle would only shoot at anything within 35 yds because i know my combo and know it will hit where its intended. Add 10 yds to that for .177

Hillbill hit it on the head (forgive pun).

Most shooters guns are far more capable than the guy squeezing the trigger, so there is no definitive answer. Only you know how good you are.
