    funny gun

    Hi all.

Saw this the other day and thought it was really funny it's a clip of a replica ak-47(ish) gun that fires bb's and ejects cases.... it look serious... and even has a bayonet.

But I could not stop laughing at the bit when he starts shooting the cans.

That's actually reasonably respectable for a spring powered airsoft gun, especially one with such a short cocking stroke.

However, I've torn similar cans apart before by setting up extreme hydraulic shock, although not with an airsoft gun... It took something a little more manly.
(EDIT: not explosives by the way!)

It helps to have an unopened can of a non-carbonated drink, but on that occasion, it was a can of ginger beer I drank, then refilled with water.

I then smashed vegetable matter into it at great speed. Part of the trick here is that it breaks apart on impact, imparting all the energy into the can, rather than penetrating through, which wastes energy.
Cue one large explosion of water as the potato hits, and forces the incompressible water out of the way. Basically, the can is torn apart by the water moved out of the way by the potato.

About half the cans tear in two, others peel apart like this one.

I'm afraid I don't have any pretty still images of this kind of thing like Kev does.

I remember the johnny seven. I must be showing my age now but I guess it was the johnny seven that started my life long fascination with guns. I espacially liked the red rocket grenade and the way the pistol grip actually dropped out to become a pistol - wow imagine trying to launch a toy like that these days?
