My father has the 4 3/4" Cattleman and we had so much fore and aft cylinder play that it didn't always fire (with nitro, shotgun primers) We machined the cylinder and made a new spacer. Since then it has shot 250-300 rounds without a click.

I believe it is a well known problem due to wear? At least I've heard it mentioned in the flesh a few times.

You want to speak to Westlake or better Bob Dunkley and get a nitro conversion. Costs about £200 but does away with the BP fuss. Shoots like the cartridge gun and we can reload it in less than 60 seconds, I think my best is 45 seconds. (Home made head seating press, not that hard)
