I think they are the factory inspectors stamps.
I have a ew webley pistols and whilst cleaning them have noticed that behind the trigger guard and under the chamber at the top are some small letters stamped into the frame ive jj and j. Has anyone any idea what these mean. They are smaller than the numbers stamped on the pistol. Thanks for your help. Howard5760.
I think they are the factory inspectors stamps.
Normally these are model stamps. I've a few premiers and have a B, D and 2 E models, there are slight differences between the guns too so the letter stamp probably is an identifying mark to ensure the right parts are used for servicing reasons etc.

The little stamps are inspectors stamps.

Ive just one thing that i need to clear up if these markings are inspection marks then why are they not on all pistols i dont seem to be able to find any literature on them any where. Its not as if it would be easy to stamp in this position.
try bruces book on Webley pistols, all the answers are in there.
Try Amazon, I have just looked and there are 15 for sale on there.
