im thinking of buying some more tools to make it easyer for me when making stocks and other things out of wood. i have chisels and thats about it. thinking of getting some kind of electric sander like a detail sander, belt sander or something and maybe a router. what do you use and what would you recomend? thanks, dan.
Millers, lathes, files, rasps, orbital sander, various saws but lately the Repo saw and circular saw, not forgetting a vice, few chisels and drills.
No need for anything else.
oh and harang has a big f@@@@ing lump hammer![]()
what about a router ?? with some good cutters you can do most of the inletting
ps im a joiner by trade
Have a look in your local Aldi, currently they are doing lots of power tools cheap, saws, routers, router tables etc. Ok, they are probably not up to daily professional use but more than adequate for some DIY stockmaking.

Cant forget the ole Brummie adjusting tool.
sorry what are millers? and whad do you use files and rasps for? thanks, dan.
Something along the lines of this http://www.chesteruk.net/store/836_turret_mill.htm
Files for shaping, rasps good for roughing.
Table saw, band saw, radial arm saw, router, router table, planer, planer/thicknesser, mortiser, sander, pillar drill, in other words,The New Yankee Workshop....50 grands worth of power tools to make a nice new stock!
Seriously though, I reckon a router, power drill, chisels, rasps/files and a never ending supply of elbow grease would do the job. Oh, and a bandsaw.

The tools I use most for shaping the stock are a 4" angle grinder fitted with rubber backed sanding disk and a set of sanding drums that I use in my power drill.
Oh, plus a dremil type tool with a small sanding drum.

I used an old draw knife when helping a friend fabricate some new frame members from seasoned ash for a 1949 AC 2 Litre saloon.
Brilliant tool for shaping wood. I must get one some day.
