Last week I picked up some garbage trojan keyloggger spoof that kept chucking up spoof security centre warnings, and any click on the only active link took me to an American site wanting 49 dollars to clear it.

Adaware couldn't find it, spybot missed it, superantispyware found 1300 other bits of junk but not this, and I was about to do a reformat and reinstall, when my local PC guru dropped in to talk about a new laptop for the wife. He got onto here, installed this anti-malware that Neil is recommending, and that flushed it out.

christ Ive been very lucky then ,, saying that I don`t really d/l alot with the laptop as it`s on 3g broadband , I use main pc for that and have avast running on that , is avast not enough ?, I`m not wonderful with s/ware

You're telling me? I've just had a malware attack, backdoor trojan which hijacked my paypal account, tried to buy a couple of thousand dollars worth of stuff. Luckily Paypal cottoned on, and I didn't lose any money, but I fair crapped myself!!
