    kassnar heads up

Hi Gents and Ladies of the collectable's section

I've never been in hear before so please be gentle

I could do with a little advice if you would be so kind

I have just purchased a rather sweet 70's or 80's HW77 (gonna have to email weihrauch serial number to confirm build date)

This came with a rather nice period Kassnar Scope I've tried searching on the forum for more details on the scope but can't find anything with the specific mag its a 1.75-5
I've never seen a 1.75 mag before and really wanted to know it's value the optics are so clear I am over the moon with my new purchase, but not sure if to keep the scope or upgrade to something dare I say more modern

I appericiate that you old boys like to have period rifles matched up with period scopes etc and I only wish that my mum & dad would of let me have air rifles when I was approaching addolesence in the 80's for me to appericiate them and learn how to use cross hairs properly....

You see im more of a mildot man and I may have to stick a AGS or Hawke on the old bugger!!! Nah im only joking couldn't do it to the old girl.

Seriously just a heads up on the scope really chaps If I did decide to sell it, I would hate to flog it for a tenner if its worth so much more...lol

hi, if you come up with a price for the kassnar i would be interested, i would guess about £45 depending on condition,
i am prob way out, what do others think ?
your 77 would only date from 83 onwards, if you put your serial no on here i am sure someone will narrow it down for you,

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the Quick reply, Im 100% confident my 77 is defo a pre 89 as theres a made in W.Germany stamp on it.
    The serial number is 118*####*
I have emailed Weihrauch but not sure when I will get the return email as I have used there contact email address on there website, and no doubt this will take a while to reach the right person.

Kassnar quality varies from great, the first that entered the UK, to average later ones. Magnification is on the low side the 3-9 being better, more popular. If its in really good nick then £30. Mint £50. Every mark is ££ knocked off. Rough £15.

Sharp early 80's scopes are good scopes and were relatively expensive in their time. The trouble is that quality varies from one scope to another so much. Value is in how sharp they are. Have a fantastically sharp one then they reach good money. Dull then not a lot.

I've had a few Kassnar scopes, most were a disappointment. Same could be said of most of the other makes too; and just to rub salt in when you do find a model that you like the specs, even factory, is changed and they are not the same.

    Thanks for the reply chap,

I would say the Quality is very good really sharp and bright, theres a couple of minor scratches on the scope body but the lenses look decent and not scratched. I actualy quite like it, think i'll try it out for a bit and see how it goes.

Good to know its probably worth more than a tenner then

Will do fella, from your list mines (118*####*) somewhere between 1987 and 1993 I would hazzard a guess more than likely around 88/89 as it has made in W.Germany stamped on it, so pre berlin wall.

Just a quick one. The HW77 especially in .177 is an exceptionally accurate spring rifle; heavy but groups consistently well. In .22 not bad at all. If you restrict your shots to no more than 35m then a 5x scope is more than adequate to give you a sight picture able to take full advantage of the rifles accuracy in the field. 35m is your longest range with a few inches of hold over and 20-25m your spot on zero range. Keep to these parameters and you will have it in the bag. Extend the range and even with the biggest, all swinging and dancing, scope you will have problems.

Learn to shoot a springer well and it will make all your other rifle shooting better.

Totaly agree with you chap, your advice sounds exactly like a fellow member down my local range who has given me a few pointers on springers and scopes.
I've always liked springers and even when I have had a pcp or two in my collection I always seem to revert back to a springer to keep me more focused and to revitalise the soul again I do find pcp's a little souless at times but they do have there advantages in leightweight and multishot guise.
