    What X-mag do you use?

    Hi all

I've been looking around the site for some weeks now, so thought it's about time i post something

I've always wondered what times (X) scope mag folks tend to use when out in the field hunting?
I myself pretty much leave it on x6 standing or rested.

Another question, does your zero setting change if you increase/decrease your X-mag? never thought to try tbh.

    Regards
    Andy

Hi Andy and welcome to the BBS !

I used to use 10x or 14x because my hunting was all prone ambush hunting.

The zero shift with mag adjustment will depend on the scope, some do some don't, someone will explain the first focal plane shortly i hope,

    Hello Andy .

And welcome to the forum mate .

I normally tead to use Side wheel focusing scopes when shooting air rifles , so i range find using the higher mag settings I.E. X28-32 then wind down to X10 or X12 depending on what combo im using at the time , to take the shot .

    Hope this helps mate .

All the very best fellas .

    Andy .

normal shooting i tend to do on approx 8x.

there is no right or wrong answer on this one, it is really down to your own preference.

as for zero shift with mag change. yes, in some scopes this will happen./ the best thing to do is set 2 targets at 25 / 30 yards shoot at 3 or 5 shot group at the bull on lowest mag and on the other target on the highest mag.

this should tell you what kind of shift your scope gives you (if any)

I tend to vary between 3x and 6x depending on range and light conditions.

Maybe someone had better explain the use of x mag in relation to light available?
sure several new to hunting would appreciate a technical explanaition from an in house "expert".

I shoot 14 mag on both my guns, simply because the sidewheels and aimpoints correspond correctly.
Don’t you find it Funny that after Monday(M) and Tuesday(T), the rest of the week says WTF?

I always shoot at 12x its just my preference.
I did make a real effort to shoot at 10x for a while as i wanted a fixed mag scope, but i just did not get on with 10x.

All of the older gentleman shooters i know shoot at 6x and think i am quite mad shooting at 12x.
