1851 B.P. Navy revolver to import from USA

I am currently staying with family in the USA and as a gift I was given a BP cap and ball navy revolver, can I get it on my F.A.C. or will I have to leave it here and shoot it when I'm visiting, any one with experience to give advice ??

    Russell,

Are you in the US now? Do you have your FAC with you? Do you have a variation for .36 B/P revolver?

If so, put it in a airline approved luggage, bring it over. Go through the "Red" channel at customs and declare it. Pay any duty deemed necessary and Customs fill in your FAC. Inform your firearms dept in the usual way, jobs a good 'un!

For personal imports your FAC/SGC acts as all relevant import docs. Look through the notes on your ticket and you'll see it printed there.

The last post in this thread is right. You do need a variation on your FAC first. It used to be that Customs would store the gun until your variation came through. That was many years ago and they are more likely to destroy it now. If you have a variation and your FAC handy then just declare it in the normal way on arrival.
One other thing. MAKE SURE your airline is prepared to carry firearms. Many won't carry as much as an air pistol even though it is securely locked in the hold. I speak from bitter experience on this. Even if they do they may charge you a handling fee. You may also need to reproof the gun once it has arrived. It depends on who made it. Italian proof marks may be OK.

I fly with US Airways I checked their policy and it looks like no problem with them, just original box in hard sided case, locked, and key in my possession, so looks good for next trip, they even allow ammo but I won't bother !! thanks, Russ.
