My load, using 777fffg in a Pietta .44 is 15g by weight, filler (semolina - empty 9mm case full), plain felt wad and .454 ball.

Thanks John. What can I use instead of an empty 9mm case for the semolina measure?

    Hi Eagleman

Is the 9mm case giving you too much ?

What sort of volume are you looking to throw ?

Not so fast Roy! I can't pick the gun up yet until my variation comes through.

No, I was just referring to John's post re his reference to using a 9mm case as a measure which is fine if you have such a case to hand but I haven't. So what to use instead to give the "right" measure?

How many do you want !

Failing that - I can send you 38 or 357 which you can trim to give the correct 'scoop' if you know what I mean !

I probably also have some of the Lee yellow powder scoops in various volumes (I dont use them & take them out of the Lee tubs & they then 'disappear' to the back of a shelf etc.)

Let me know - I'd be glad to send you a few cases for you to play with

Most people that want a quick 'fix' just glue a lolly stick to a case thats been trimmed to throw the correct volume

It anit pretty but it works .......

    Speak later

Email is in my profile as PM inbox is invariably full ....Oooops !

    All the best

It's not critical - what you're trying to do with inert fillers is move the ball as close to the cylinder mouth as poss, to minimise 'jump' between cylinder and barrel throat. My 9mm case jobbie was a result of trial and error and in fact it really doesn't hold enough semolina. Good enough though. Some I know use powder dippers from their reloading kits, others all sorts of weird and wonderful home made gizmos. Empty cases seem most popular though - get hold of one, cut it down if too large bit by bit until it holds about the right amount then fix a snazzy handle with a small bolt through the primer socket. Makes it easy to scoop up the filler and dump it into the cylinder.

I use a 38spl case. It really dont matter, you can do it by eye after a bit of trial.

My club has banned the use of powder flasks insisting that we use phials, which I fill at home from the powder measure on my reloading press so very consistant. So I'm thinking of sorting out a suitable spout and using my flask to dispense the cous-cous.

My current load is 17gr by weight 777, 38spl of filler, no wad just aloxed ball with no other lube.

Getting 3" groups at 25m which is as good as I get with any other gun over iron sights.

Thanks John and Smokeless. Good info.

Why has the Club banned powder flasks Smokeless?

    Anyone had too much bang?
