Every winter I determine to straighten my back, push out my chest and step forth with my HW77k, casting aside the comfort and ease of my s400 until the summer months return.
After about 3 months I hunch my shoulders, my chip drops to my chest and I plod back disheartened.
No matter what I do, I just cannot shoot the thing consistently. I can (almost)put pellet on pellet but as soon as I put it down and then pick it back up the POI changes - still tidy groups but in a very different place! I keep going and then something must change and wallop! off we go again!
It cannot be the rifle as I have changed the spring(put in a Bonnie & Clyde) and the recoil has almost disappeared, the lock time is a fraction of what it was.
I thought it might be the scope, but have tried another. Same results.
Stock comb too low? I replaced the 77 stock with an HW97 stock. Feels much better but that is it.
Must be me then.
I use as light a hold on it as I can, try to be as consistent as possible, follow through, try and ensure my head in in the same position. Jeez it is frustrating.
I am 46 now, what do you reckon, will I ever master it?

what is your gun reading on a chrono now consistancy wise? do you have a silencer on it?POI change sounds odd, pity your so far away as i would like to test it 10 - 60yds
Springers are gay Richard, sell it and buy pellets for your PCP's!

Last time I chronoed it it was consistent to 3 fps, however I still want to reduce the power a bit so have siome mucking about to do, I can't see that it is the power changing as the POI alters left and right as well as up and down.
It hasn't had that many pellets through since I put the new spring in. Maybe I need to give it a bit more time, to settle down but I had the same problem before changing the scope and the spring.

Richard,
Bring it to the next SH, and i'll give it a trial.
It's a good idea to let a 'seasoned' spring gun user (preferably with the same type of rifle) use it to 'prove' there's nothing wrong with the gun. If stock screws are loose, this can cause the action to move and spray 'em all over the place. A couple of other things spring (no pun intended) to mind; pellet choice and, have you ever cleaned the barrel, are the mounts 'holding,' and is the scope 'badgered.' Regards ... Geek

Have you checked you set up for the shot the same each time you put the gun down & pick it up again? If you cant the rifle over slightly to the side from the vertical the relationship between the line of sight of the scope & barrel will change. This would explain your good but off target groups. A bubble spirit level would help.

These are all good tips chaps, thanks, I'll start from scratch and try anything (legal and reasonably moral!)

How about your trigger technique. Can cause a problem or 2

Must be down to px error if you can group but in a different place your head must be moving in relation to the scope me thinks . some times a 'pig's ear' can help if you can get on wiv them.Unless of course you are changing ammo between sessions?.

I used my prosport a few weeks back and was taking out reduced kills at all rangesbut the next time I tried it the thing was all over the shop
I found that it needs around 20 shots to be consistant perhaps it's to do with the cold , it is seriously accurate thereafter though and a joy to shoot.

I would agree with Dave on that, I am sure some nuclear physicist can explain it, I just put it down to fine starnds of silk from the cobwebs.![]()
Yes, about 20 odd shots and it all comes together - it may be that being an old beggar I need the 20 shots to relax and shoot straight!!!
Take care, Voldemort
All in black, all in black, gives wabbits a heart attack.
This is pretty much the way with mine - 20 or 30 shots in the same place and then the POI changes. The difference is that it doesn't go all over the place, just a distinct change in the position of the group. It is normally something like 1 1/2" either high left or low left. Eventually I give up and re-zero. Next time I pick it up it has gone back to the original POI.
I can't undestand why the POI would change after a few shots unless I am doing something different. Having changed the internals and the scope I must have ruled those out as the cause. There can't be much left other than me.
I did wonder about the head position, now that the recoil is under control I could try a pig's ear, I hadn't thought that putting one on a spring was a good idea - any thoughts?
All input much appreciated

It's probably worth trying a different scope Richard as perhaps your's isn't happy having the billy knocked out of it ?
Does it shoot anything like my pre charged Prosport btw ?
