    Rust blacking and browning

I have just re-discovered a family barrel finishing recipe after 20 years of re-search here is the end product. http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/v...eyrichards.jpg

I would say that is a 'no bad' job . Not many people can do a decent damascus job nowadays. Since the death of Paul Chambers I dont think there is anyone in Scotland who has a clue and the only other people I know of are Wisemans so its good to see someone on here with the knowledge to do a good job

Where did you get corrosive sublimate?

Or is there a substitute sublimate?

    Corrosive sublimate availability

You need a very good reason to buy corrosive sublimate as it is on the poisons register. You can try Boots the Chemist but very unlikely to get a positive response and you may very well draw unwanted attention from others in authority... Even if you order some through commercial channels you could be challenged with your rason for requesting it as it is very poisonous.
However it is very good in rapid blacking solutions and there are many formulations that use it.

    rust blacking and browning

Reference the corrosive sublimate I would advise strongly against using this stuff, my grandfather stopped using it many years back, and I wont go near it either!

Hmmm that looks good. I have a couple of damascus guns that could use re-browning, if you drop me a pm with your contact details I'll be in touch.
