Based on age - such a thing would be classed as an antique and curio.
The might of the law only comes into effect if there is any intention of using or firing same.

Have a feeling you can own them but not sell them or give them away or buy them. If you have one you are stuck with it; however a deceased estate can stick them in auction.
However, others can advise better. I would like to know for sure too. Please.

I thought the ban was for air cartridge (Harper style) and live round weapons concealed in walking sticks and the like just after Hungerford when Douglas Hurd the Home Secretary of the time banned butterfly knives, throwing stars and suchlike. I had trouble trying to sell a .410 walking stick shotgun and ended up accepting something daft to put it into a gun auction.

Hello All,
I believe Air canes are legal as all are an obsolete calibre. A friend has a couple and has no trouble buying and selling these items recently.
A funny thing – Ball reservoir air rifles. The rifles are OK on the above ruling, BUT I believe you need an FAC for the ball cylinders. Depends also on the local authority.
All a bit vague, but I believe the general jist is there.

Air Canes, Butt and Ball reservoir air guns are all legal even if they exceed 12 ft lbs, which they obviously would if working properly, providing they are an antique owned merely as a 'curiosity or ornament'.
Anything less than 100 years old has been held not be to an antique, but a definition of exactly what is and isn't antique hasn't been specifically defined.
Obsolete calibres are nothing to do with it, that criteria is relevant when discussing rook rifles for example, not air guns.
So basically there is not a problem with buying, selling and owning these old airguns, providing you do not fill their resevoirs with 1000 psi, and then go out shooting 1/2" lead balls in the park at the local squirrel population!
