    Beginner

Hi I have never used air pistols before and was thinking of getting one for plinking in the garden at some cans and other stuff. I was looking to spend £50-80 and would prefer a spring pistol so I can sit there plinking without worrying about co2 or air. Ideally I would like to fit a silencer so the neighbours wont complain. So what would you recommend.

Yep as Andy said above, go for the HW40 it's a Single Stroke Pneumatic so no need for C02 or divers bottles, and it's pretty quiet as well. this pistol will not disappoint.

You wont regret it getting the 40, even though you may regret putting it on hold for other stuff

I have been out today with my 40 and well I was well miffed that I had to come back in to cook tea

Wife and kids really get in the way of my shooting

They are about £110 new (Trulock & Harris, Suffolk, one month ago) and you will probably be paying 75% of that for a good S/H one.

Linnet is spot on there, you will be looking at £75-£90 for a good second hand one, though i have seen some go for as little as £60. Just make sure it's a Weihrauch HW40 (or a Beenman P3 rebadged HW40 for the U.S market), don't settle for the Beeman 2004 or the Beeman P17, both are cheap copy's of the HW40.

    First pistol

An alternative to the HW40 would be the Webley Nemesis. Single shot pneumatic..nice pistol.. might be cheaper than the HW40 s/h.

What about an HW 70, if it's a springer he's after?

Or an HW 45, if he wants a springer with lots of power? (It's NOT cheap, though! )
